The Cabinet, led by the Ministry of Labor, approved a draft announcement from the Ministry of Labor on measures to reduce Social Security contributions for insured persons under Sections 33 and 39 for a period of six months. This measure aims to ease financial burdens and support economic recovery for those affected by flooding and the economic situation. The flooding, which has impacted many areas across the country, has caused widespread hardship. The Ministry of Labor, through the Social Security Office, recognizes the difficulties faced by insured persons and has implemented this contribution reduction to assist those affected in 41 provinces. The details of the contribution reduction are as follows:

 

Details of the Contribution Reduction Measures.

 

  • Insured under Section 33: For a monthly salary of 15,000 baht, the contribution will be reduced from the original 750 baht (5%) to a maximum reduction of 450 baht (3%).
  • Insured under Section 39: The contribution will be reduced from the original 432 baht to 283 baht.

In addition, the extension of the deadline for filing contribution statements by four additional periods demonstrates an understanding and effort to facilitate insured individuals. The filing deadline extension applies to Social Security contributions under Sections 33 and 39. 

  • For the period of September 2024, the deadline is January 15, 2025.
  • For the period of October 2024, the deadline is February 15, 2025.
  • For the period of November 2024, the deadline is March 15, 2025.
  • For the period of December 2024, the deadline is April 15, 2025.

This measure covers 41 affected provinces, which are: Krabi, Kanchanaburi, Kalasin, Kamphaeng Phet, Khon Kaen, Chaiyaphum, Chumphon, Chiang Rai, Chiang Mai, Trang, Tak, Nakhon Nayok, Nakhon Pathom, Nakhon Phanom, Nakhon Ratchasima, Nakhon Si Thammarat, Nakhon Sawan, Nan, Bueng Kan, Phayao, Phang Nga, Phichit, Phitsanulok, Phetchabun, Phrae, Phuket, Mukdahan, Mae Hong Son, Roi Et, Lampang, Lamphun, Loei, Satun, Saraburi, Sukhothai, Surat Thani, Nong Khai, Nong Bua Lam Phu, Ang Thong, Udon Thani, and Uttaradit.

 

Duration of the Measures.

The measures to reduce Social Security contributions will be in effect for a duration of six months, aimed at alleviating the financial burden during a time when individuals need to restore their livelihoods and enhance their financial liquidity. After this period, an evaluation will be conducted to assess whether the measures have met their objectives in supporting the insured individuals, and to consider the necessity of extending the measures or adjusting them to align with the economic conditions and the well-being of the insured.

This contribution reduction measure helps insured individuals under Sections 33 and 39 increase their liquidity, allowing them to use these funds to reduce their daily living expenses or manage the costs of recovery from damages caused by natural disasters. Additionally, it serves to stimulate the overall economy, as people are likely to increase their spending during times of crisis.
